The cosmetic industry in Turkey, Import and Export Figures and R&D - Innovation approaches  and herbal product concepts: 

According to figures of  IKMIB and TUIK, exports of the chemical sector, 17.5 billion dollars in 2013. Cosmetics Sector exports of 1.17 billion dollars. The share of the cosmetics sector out of  the Chemical industry exports is that% 6.68.  Import figures of cosmetics products is 2.01 billion dollars in 2013. Imported cosmetic products more than 70% of exported cosmetics products value. Exports value cover up  58% importation of cosmetic products.

In this group according to information compiled by the Statistics Institute (TUIK) data, 66 percent of the cosmetic material imports are  makeup, skin creams, perfumes and hair dyes products.

Importation of make-up and  skin creams by the end of 2013, amounted to $ 50.5 million. Hair-dye imports amounted to 45.8 million dollars, imports of perfume  is 39 million dollars , eye makeup products imports is 36.5 million dollars.

To increase sales in the domestic market and to increase its exports of cosmetics, what should be done? What is the reason for biggest demand for imported products? 

The cosmetic products are demanded as well as the needs and also the aesthetic preferences and their price are the other important factors.  Imported products are that is more certainly wont have price advantages but their aesthetics, presenting the product and their advertisement power effect the customer. The domestic manufacturer has problem of supplying aesthetic and high quality packaging, boxes, display stands. As a matter of the fact that it reflects their marketing power. When you study foreign products you find out similar formulations has different product presentation in different packagings. Increasing the market share and exportation depends on making innovative products by using new raw materials and new claims so that having wide range of product line. 

For increasing the exportation makes domestic manufacturer to do more investments to search for new markets. The domestic manufacturers meet new trade committees and attend new overseas fairs.

Here is the subject to accelerate that adding new textures, new models, new product group to the product line everytime. To do this you need to focus on innovative approaches to the agenda as the most important factor should be taken with urgency. Group of existing domestic products has been completed  saturation level in domestic and foreign markets. 

Looking at innovation and investments in the overseas cosmetics manufacturers, the average is %3 out of their turnover. The domestic manufacturer does not give enough attention on this subject.  When we consider the operating cost is too high if manufacturer invest %1 out of their turnover for innovation, research and development It is obvious that increasing market share will gain momentum. Innovation and R & D should not consider as an expense, it is an investment. Looking at the imported cosmetic products value, the dosmestic manufacturer has that much market to share.

In Cosmetics Industry adding herbal ingredients to existing formulation will enrich the product quality and activity  and will help to increase the market share either in domestic market or foreign market.  It is important subject that adding the herbal products by choosing activity type to suitable product. In this case you get as well as enriching the product and also it will increased the demand. Besides combining  food and textile production methods  with cosmetic formulation methods will allow you have considerable number of new formulas.The strong structure of textile industry in Turkey you can combine it with cosmetic industry and get advantages to make new innovative cosmetotextile products. Neocare P3R ; Desired formulation texture can be formulated by natural emulsifier such as Neocare P3R. Neocare P3R is made from pure castor and glycerine and ecocertified product. It is suitable with most oils and butters and so that it can be formulate desired texture and desired viscosity and consistency of the product. The resulting product is glossy and sentiment on the skin is very refresing. Skin Creams, hair creams, foundation creams, hand and nail creams can be formulated. The usage level %2-6. Fo-Ti- He Shou Wo;  

Botanical Name: Polygonum Multiflorum Thunb.

Common Name: Fleece flower root –

Japanese Name: kashuu –

Korean Name: Hasuo –

Chinese Name: Fo-Ti.

Family : Smartweed (Polygonaceae)

According to an ancient Chinese story that a Chinese stucked on the mountains and starved where this plant was found and he ate this plant. His white hair was completely blackened in the morning. By this claim, in USA this product is being sold as a hair antiaging supplement. A lot of research has been done on this plant . According to the studies conducted in Germany peroxide produced by human cells that are causing the hair graying  The peroxides used in hair dye thus trigger hair graying agent. Lipooxygenase activity of this product reduce production of peroxide and  so prevent premature hair aging . Accordingly it has anti-hairloss activity. Skin itching reduced by direct application . It has anti-itching activity so that it can be added to the cosmetic formulas providing additional value to the product. The blood that carries nutrients to the hair comes from the liver. Early hair graying can cause if there is any liver disease. Fo-Ti are used in the treatment of liver diseases also. Formulating the cosmetic products with best penetration provider ingredients into the hair and  the root of hair, the products with this extract  has the best effect of anti-aging means preventing gray hair. Due to its great soothing and healing properties, it is widely used in the formulation of skin related creams and lotion. This oil is rich in the fatty acids and glycerides that are highly effective in dealing with the various skin disorders. Due to its antiseptic properties, it is widely used to cure minor cut and burn. Moreover, this oil is very effective in getting rid of pimples and acne.On the other hand this oil insect repellent. It can formulate for mosquito repellent for kids as a natural formulation.  

Cajeput Oil: Cajeput oil is produced by steam distillation of fresh leaves and twigs of the cajeput tree (Melaleuca leucadendra) and the paperbark tree (Melaleuca quinquenervia). Cajeput oil is used to treat toothache, Some people apply cajeput oil to the skin for mites (scabies) and a fungal infection of the skin (tinea versicolor). Cajeput oil has been used in expectorant formulations and antiseptic and pain-relieving liniments, mouthwashes, shampoos, body washes, deodorants, acne products, barrier creams, lip balms, sunscreens, toothpastes, insect repellents, veterinary products, and others. The oil has been used in dentistry for relieving discomfort due to dry sockets; also used as a fragrance component in soaps, detergents, creams, lotions, and perfumes, with maximum use level of 0.4% in the last category.  

Chitosan: Chitosan forms a protective and moisturizing, elastic film on the surface of the skin, that has the ability to bind other ingredients that act on the skin. Also it has antimicrobial effect that allow you to use it in toothpaste and mouth wash formulations.It is biodegradable and non-toxic. It also modifies the viscosity and has activity against Pitospyrum ovale, the cause of dandruff. This product usage increase everyday all around the world. 

Andean Q Ultra ; Quillaja saponaria Wood extract,  Chilean Soap Bark Tree(Quillaja saponaria Molina). The product contains saponin, a natural surfactant. You can produce with it  non- alcohol hand sanitizing wipes, skin cleansing tonic, serums. The product  is Kosher and Halal certified. It is important that these two certifications are important  for some countries and has significantly possitive advertising power. There is some studies for  acne reduction. By adding this product to your existing products such as cream, skin cleansers, toothpaste, dental disinfectants, will contribute its value due to recognizing the products in the world.

Pets are the closest  friends of the people, especially for dogs and cats variety of cosmetic product are produced for them at all over the world. By adding this products to the product portfolio by Turkish Cosmetics Manufacturer will help having market share  in foreign markets more and more. The year 2014, estimates that only in the United Kingdom, 13 million household has 65 million pets. In Turkey also this number is increasing every day. Cosmetic Chemist with knowledge of  cosmetics raw material and  the production , they will be able formulate  similar products for pets. Here are the important  and considered  subject is their skin PH and  allergen  substances that should be avoid in formulas. In this context, the regulation of Cosmetic products are not the one followed. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is the authority and published  the  Non-Medical Veterinary Health Products Regulation  for  pet  products and production conditions  at Official Gazette dated 17.12.2011 of Act No. 28145 .
